FAQs about hotels in Auckland

Thrilling City of Sails and Volcanoes

Called the 'City of Sails' due to the large number of yachts anchored in Waitemata Harbour, Auckland is the largest city of both New Zealand and Polynesia. Built on the Auckland Volcanic Field featuring about 48 extinct volcanoes, this city truly offers a blast!

Auckland is a real cultural mix with strong Asian, European, Maori and Polynesian influences, celebrated in frequent festivals and sporting events. Some examples of these cultures can be seen at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, one of the best in New Zealand. For more, try the upmarket dining of the Viaduct Harbour.

Another must-see is the tallest free-standing tower in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower. If you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can even perform the Sky Jump, a controlled base jump from 192 metres!

Climbing the volcanic cones as well as the stunning Auckland Harbour Bridge will provide unforgettable, panoramic views of the city’s skyline. For a different perspective, why not try a cruise or sea kayaking?

Getting to the city centre is an easy trip from Auckland International Airport. Find modern hotels, comfortable motels and cheap hostels on Booking.com, sure to have the perfect accommodation for your holiday.

    Travel from airport is awful.

Travel from airport is awful. It has never been brilliant but is certainly much worse. Taxi drivers were just not interested in taking us to Pakuranga. This is 3rd world level. Down town Auckland is slowly getting back on its feet. It should develop it uniqueness.

Make the effort and walk down to the Viaduct area..this place is pumping...loads of choices for food and drink..you can sit and people watch, admire the beautiful yachts, enjoy the friendly atmosphere...awesome buzzy vibe. If you don't feel like walking back to your hotel? there are plenty of taxis around....another tip, if you aren't going far, ask the taxi driver to take you back to your hotel for XXXX (whatever you feel like offering)..most of them will probably happily oblige to have some fare is better than no fare! There are so many road works in Auckland that paying full fare by taxis can be expensive, always try and barter the price before you get in.

Absolutely beautiful city, terrain, food selection and BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE. Downtown Auckland may be hard to travel for persons with mobility issues due to steep and hilly terrain. You can still see a lot of the land marks, have a car service drop u off directly in front. If you want to see the majesty of the land, get out of the city and canvas the surrounding countrysides or hop on the ferry. I’ll be back to connect how city busses and other transportation/ferry can connect you to other places. Definitely bringing my family back. Something for everyone. Definitely want to see Rotorua and different foods. I loved everything about this place and as a solo traveler, I felt safe.

I'm not normally much of a city guy, but Aukland was a really great place to explore. It had that feel of a city that didn't know it's a city. Not a huge amount of chains and a lot more smaller businesses. Having said that if you want some serious shopping there were plenty of the bigger boutiques too. The touristy stuff was actually really good and not too expensive, things like the Skytower and the ferries to the other islands.

Always love going to Auckland never a boring day, Favourite place to go is for sure the walk (or scooter) around the viaduct. super easy to get lost in the streets of Auckland but if you know your way or have a handy Google map then its beautiful down any street you turn to.

The CBD area has a lot to walk too.

The CBD area has a lot to walk too. The dinner at the orbit in skytower was very good. The wine tour to Waiheke was lovely! Do note the ferry ride is $55 return if you book online. Piha black Sand Beach is about 50 mins from Auckland. I would suggest a stop off at the Arataki visitor centre before heading to Piha. I would also suggest going to the Mercer bay Loop. It is a bit of a steep walk, but can be done within an hour. Just make sure you do the loop and start where the marker is. The walk up the other way is not as bad as going down. The hop on hop off bus was helpful. I also suggest a stroll up Mount Eden. You get beautiful views of Auckland.

Fantastic stay at Aarangi Motel. Beautiful large clean room, just 100m from a lovely beach, bars and bus stop to the city centre ( buses every 15 minutes) Despite the weather being very hot and humid the room was beautifully airy and we rarely needed to use the two fans provided. Veronica was a great host and, nothing was too much trouble. With access to Auckland CBD just a 15 minute bus ride away I think we would always stay here in preference to a city hotel / apartment. Thank you very much Team Aarangi, you made our stay superb

This accommodation provides everything that one might need without costing huge amounts. Breakfast was included in the room price and we were astonished at the extent of options available. The staff were lovely, nothing was too much problem, and we were able to park our car for the duration of our stay. Of course there was an extra for this but it was very reasonable given that we were needing parking in Auckland City! The hotel was walking distance to Queen Street, the Viaduct, the casino, Spark Arena. Perfect for us!

Front door has mortice lock, no danger of being locked out or latch being carded. The room is as advertised except no balcony, safety deposit box, ironing facilities, spa bath or minibar, Although on front of house not noisy, I was not there during the day but the street seemed quiet when I was. close to bus routes into Auckland, the house is in Parnell midway between Parnell and Newmarket (Extensive shopping) train stations (For airport/CBD). I’d stay there again if I had reason to visit the Parnell area.

Lovely clean and very new apartments in great location. Rooms had washer and dryer and kitchenette with tea and coffee which was perfect. It had a gym but we didn't use it. Also lots of parking for $25 per night, which in Auckland prices is reasonable compared to other hotels. Staff were very helpful and friendly and gave great recommendations for food near by. We checked in late but they have a call centre that helped us with an easy check in which was perfect. Will definitely come back again.

Nice hotel, friendly staff, lovely very acceptable rooms. Accomodating and stress free. Trustworthy, and very clean. Big difference from another motel I stayed at near Auckland airport. Prefer comfort, safety, cleanliness and a professional attitude over price. The shuttle bus ran quite frequently and was very convenient and you could book it to take you to the airport at any time convenient for your flight (not like cheaper places (another story))

I also stayed for one night a week earlier. I asked for the same end room ’18’ which I thought was perfect. Clean with tv/wifi kitchenette and large bathroom. Could park outside the door - a unique electronic patio door mechanism. Quiet neighborhood on wide, quiet collector road. 10 minutes from the airport on the way out and close to the cross-city freeway (tried to stay out of Auckland traffic as much as possible).

We've been staying here for 23 years. The property is located close to town. The bed is comfortable and we always get a room with a view. The room is larger than similarly priced rooms in Auckland CBD. Breakfast is generous. Price is cheap for what you get.Free parking too. I don't like city driving so the bus being only $1.10 to town from right outside the driveway is fab. $8 for an uber.
